San Francisco, CA- API Wellness launches Clinic @ Trans Thrive, on Friday December 1st 2017, offering critical medical and social services for the exclusively for the transgender community. The clinic is an additional installation of programming for the already successful drop-in center.

Located in the heart of the Tenderloin District, Clinic @ Trans Thrive, will open its doors every Friday from 2:00pm – 6:00pm and will offer a wide array of comprehensive services including; primary medical care, hormone replacement therapy, mental health support, birth control, sexual health services including PrEP and PEP, case management and soon to come electrolysis.

“Currently, there are many services for the transgender community in San Francisco.” Said Nikki “Tita Aida” Calma, Associate Director of HIV Prevention at API Wellness. “However, the demand of medical needs of the trans community is dramatically increasing. Adding more options for the community to have access to medical care and choose medical providers will result to a healthier transgender community. As of today, Trans Thrive is the only drop-in center by and for the transgender community in San Francisco and offers a vast array of relevant services for the transgender community. The addition of this clinic makes Trans Thrive a “one stop-shop” for someone who is looking for trans services here in the city”

The transgender community is one of the hardest hit communities impacted by HIV. In the 2016 San Francisco epidemiology report, it is estimated that nearly 40% of all trans women living in San Francisco are effected by HIV, with many nearly 70% of them diagnosed late because of latent testing. Many trans women of color in particular have difficulty accessing affordable health care, especially finding a culturally competent providers and an inclusive environment.

Most importantly in effort to reduce these barriers of access, Clinic @ Trans Thrive will welcome walk-in clients and no appointments necessary. In addition, the clinic accepts Medi-Cal, Medicare and private insurances. The Clinic also has eligibility counseling services to support those to access coverage.

The Clinic @ Trans Thrive is also supported by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and located at API Wellness 730 Polk Street, 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA will have a soft launch this Friday, December, from 2:00pm- 6:00pm building up to it official launch date of Friday, February 2, 2018.
