San Francisco Commemorates Transgender Day of Remembrance 2018

#EnoughIsEnough

The City of San Francisco commemorates Transgender Day of Remembrance 2018 with a solemn yet spirited heart with the transgender community. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual day of mourning for the many transgender lives lost due to hate, homophobia and transphobia. Transgender death by violence has increased in recent years especially in communities of color, of the 102 murders between 2013 and 2017, 86% of them were Black, Latinx or Native American (hrc.org). Fueling the fire, the Trump administration is now considering removing the transgender identity by legalizing sex assigned at birth, which only furthers the hate and violence on transgender and gender non-conforming people.   This year’s theme is #EnoughIsEnough.

San Francisco Transgender Empowerment, Advocacy and Mentorship Program (SF TEAM) is a new transgender leadership program of the San Francisco Community Health Center (SFCHC). SF TEAM is coordinating this year’s event with other organizations in the Bay Area. San Francisco Community Health Center has always been supporting and provided vital services to transgender and gender non-conforming people. With programming beginning as early as 1994, SFCHC has grown today to provided wrap around health services including HIV testing and treatment, primary medical care and behavioral health services including gender transitional guidance.

Please join us with our community allies as we remember and stand in resistance with the transgender community.
