
Sacramento, Ca- On Monday, March 4th 2019 at the capital building, San Francisco Community Health Center’s very own Tita Aida was honored as Woman of the Year by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus. This is a historically significant award began in 1987 to celebrate the contributions to society made by remarkable women throughout California. Here, each senate and assembly district nominates one extraordinary women making a difference in their communities. Scott Wiener, Democrat California State Senator for District 11 that ecompasses San Francisco & San Mateo County nominated Tita Aida and accompanied her to the capital.
Tita Aida (aka Nikki Calma) has worked with San Francisco Community Health Center and its predecessor organization , API Wellness, for 19 years. Her life has been dedicated to raising HIV awareness in our communities, at SFCHC , Asia SF and the many clubs and events she organizes and emcees. Ms. Calma, created the persona “Tita Aida” (Tagalog for “Aunty AIDS”) specifically to de-stigmatize and breaks the silence surrounding the epidemic of HIV/AIDS. She currently leads SFCHC as the Director of Community Programs and HIV Services.
