For over 15 years, Carlos has stayed true to his passion for individual care and basic human rights for all, actively seeking opportunities to work with people living with HIV/AIDS, mental health disorders, and substance abuse. He has a Masters degree in Advanced Nursing, a degree in Clinical Psychology, and has worked in social service agencies and federally qualified clinics with communities that face isolation, trauma, poverty, discrimination, and severe social inequalities. Carlos was forced to leave Colombia, his native country 16 years ago. He was persecuted for his sexual orientation and for working with people living with HIV/AIDS. During that time, he volunteered at a non-profit organization where he counseled people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, learning about cultures, spending time with his fiancé and friends, working out, training for triathlons, and walking his two dogs at the beach.
