Press Release: San Francisco Community Health Center joins SF Pride “united in love” for this year’s in-person festivities
San Francisco, Calif. – After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, San Francisco Community Health Center returns this Pride season with an exciting line-up of festivities that boost LGBTQ+ BIPOC visibility amid recent anti-transgender legislation, threats to queer youth, and continued acts of Asian hate.
“We are thrilled to once again celebrate Pride in person this year with our clients, staff, and neighbors,” SFCHC CEO Lance Toma says. “Today, in the face of so many threats to our hard-earned civil rights, and even to our safety, it is more important than ever that the queer BIPOC communities that we represent as an agency are seen and heard. As we gather this Pride season, we stand together with our community partners as a united front against ignorance and hate.”
Managing Director Nicky “Tita Aida” Calma, says the SFCHC Pride committee designed this year’s line-up of Pride events under the theme of “Infinite Love Unites”, inspired by the overarching SF Pride theme of “Love Will Keep Us Together”. As in previous years, Calma says all activities aim to uplift the experiences of queer people of color—populations who are at the heart of the agency’s mission to promote health equity and social justice in San Francisco.
“From a Pride kick-off party at CityHopeCafe in the Tenderloin to the highly anticipated Trans March, our parade contingent at the 52nd Annual SF Pride Parade, and a full afternoon of live entertainment at the API LGBT Stage, we have something for everyone,” Calma says. “We invite everyone to enjoy all our activities, including a variety of on-ground programs and services at each event, like free HIV and Hep C testing, and SHE Boutique. We will also have plenty of fun Pride swag, so be sure to join us!”
The SF Pride Celebration following the parade on Sunday, June 26 features more than 20 community-run stages, including the API LGBT Stage at Polk and Golden Gate Streets that is produced by Calma and SFCHC. Among this year’s API LGBT Stage headliners are American Idol’s Jasmine Trias, X-Factor USA’s Ellona Santiago, and international R&B artists Kiana V and Wils.
