San Francisco Community Health Center is proud to honor AsiaSF with our Community Impact Award for 2024.
Since 1998, AsiaSF has been a uniquely San Francisco institution, an innovative and groundbreaking restaurant, bar and entertainment venue that celebrates, empowers and gainfully employs the transgender community. At the heart of its lively dining and bar scene, have been the Ladies of AsiaSF, exquisitely choreographed performers who not only entertain but also educate and enlighten people about the transgender experience.
Although AsiaSF will be closing its San Fransciso location this year, it will remain dear to the hearts of the many staff and clients of SFCHC who have visited and worked there for more than a quarter century. Health Justice Champion 2024
To put it simply, Dr. Anthony Fauci is our superhero. Dr. Fauci was the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 to 2022, serving under seven U.S. presidents. To many of us, he is the godfather of HIV research and, most importantly, that scientist who became one of the most trusted allies of the HIV community, using his power to bring community to the table and transforming the way HIV clinical trials are conducted to this day. In more recent memory, Dr. Fauci bravely confronted COVID-19 as our country’s truth-telling doctor and researcher. He led us through the darkest days of COVID. At SFCHC, we listened intently to every briefing and heeded his guidance each and every day as we ventured into the streets of the Tenderloin. He bolstered us with that extra bit of confidence to push through our fear in support our community. He has been SFCHC’s hero in the early days when HIV took hold of too many of our community members and then, decades later, he stood by our side again when COVID-19 struck. Our local community and our nation are where we are today, healthier and stronger and alive, because of Dr. Anthony Fauci.
