ASIAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER LGBTQ PROGRAMS

Our Legacy

Since our founding, we have worked hard to remain rooted in API communities while welcoming anyone who needs our services. We grew out of the response to the 1980s AIDS crisis, specifically supporting the impact of the epidemic on the Asian and Pacific Islander community, and in 1996, we launched as Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center.

In 2015 we became recognized as a federally qualified health center (FQHC) which allowed us to increase our clinical capacity and serve more of our community. Our presence in the Tenderloin and Little Saigon is significant to us and stems from our mission to meet our community’s needs, location accessibility, and its cultural relevance. In addition to providing new programs, evolving with the needs of our API community, we maintain many of our legacy API programs to this day, including projects like the Joy Luck Club.

OUR TEAM

The Lotus Project is a community health and social safe space for and by Asian & Pacific Islander Gay, Bi, Trans, and Queer men and Trans women, in collaboration with San Francisco Community Health Center and UCSF Alliance Health Project.

We are a group for Asian & Pacific Islander Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer men and Trans women that aim to foster a strong, connected A&PI community through health, wellness, and friendship.

Stop the Hate is a groundbreaking initiative addressing the alarming rise of anti-API LGBTQ hate, violence, and crime in our community. We believe in fostering a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive without fear of discrimination or violence.

Stop the Hate combats anti-API LGBTQ hate with support groups, non-violence trainings, holistic health, mental health resources, medical and legal aid referrals, hate incidents reporting, and senior escort services.

The Joy Luck Club

The Joy Luck Club is a long-standing social group at San Francisco Community Health Center, originally established when the agency was known as API Wellness Center. Meeting every second Wednesday of the month from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., this group provides a welcoming space for Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community members to connect, participate in engaging activities, and enjoy a shared meal. The Joy Luck Club fosters a supportive and inclusive environment, helping attendees build connections, reduce social isolation, and create meaningful relationships within the community.
